Our country is divided. Over the course of 250 years many have become misinformed over what the term Minutemen really means. Luckily Missy Elliott and her song One Minute Man have sought to correct this misconception.

The term Minuteman originated from the American Revolutionary War describing the ability for common citizens to arm themselves and be ready to fight the British with a mere minute’s notice. In today’s world many have been incited to fight for freedoms they perceive to be losing but Missy Elliot calls for restraint when it comes to premature action.

Ooh, here’s your chance be a man take my hand understand

I don’t want no minute man.

Begs Missy as she pleads against the modern misconceived rapid climax concept of minutemen.

As lack of faith in governing bodies grows globally, more and more people seem to be finding satisfaction in the premature firing of their metaphorical (sometimes literal) gun. While the Minutemen seem like a call to action it is actually not so. The story of the Minutemen is a lesson in preparedness. The ability to stand up for your freedoms is always necessary but the premature incitement to action is not part of that lesson. This early climax can leave many dissatisfied.

Back to the words of Missy:

Tonight I’mma give it to you, throw it to you

I want you to come prepared. Ohh yeah (oh yeah)

This is Missy highlighting preparedness. However, take note she does not emphasize the rapid unloaded of your firearm. This of course comes from a woman of experience who was once threatened with a gun by her own father. Also important to mention, despite Missy’s advice, please don’t throw firearms to each other. Safely hand them over or even better, place it on the table for the next person to pick it up.

She continues:

Boy it’s been a long time, a crazy long time

And I don’t want no minute man, and that’s real

Like a modern-day Nostradamus, I believe Missy saw the devolution in society that we see today. In her wisdom, she was telling us we’ve been divided for a crazy long time, do not be so quick to take action against those that see the world differently than you. Of course this isn’t easy for any of us and can create a lot of hard situations. In some scenarios, if the situation remains hard for over 4 hours you should definitely consult your doctor.

Remember what’s real. Our country is a precious stone, each of us a different facet reflecting light a little differently but combined we are all of great value. Don’t let other’s call our country a hard rock when it really is a gem.

And finally, we cannot forget Ludacris’ valuable automotive advice interjected between the words of Missy: Balance and rotate all tires.
