As we all know, Super PACs got their name from Pac-Man and per their nature, are gobbling up the nation. But if they are Pac-Man, how are they working with the ghosts?
Abandoning front porches, we find ourselves glued to our devices: tablets, TVs, phones, and watches. We are the ghosts in the machine ceding the tangible world for the digital firmament at our fingertips. Like and subscribe.
Thank the stars, within the shared compassion for our fellow Man, we have kept the digital world a peaceful safe haven where cultures, peoples and ideas mingle in a beautiful tapestry of learned experiences.
Can you imagine the hellscape that could take hold if we used our screens as shields to hide behind while we shout derision and vitriol at strangers? A world where creeps follow in the footsteps of Casper the Too Friendly Ghost and act as ‘nice guys’ while harassing people across all sticky threads of the world wide web. That would be a dark dark road to travel down.
The ghosts from Pac-Man are named the following: Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde. However, if we use the direct translations of the Japanese names, the ghosts are: Chaser, Ambusher, Fickle, and Feigned Ignorance.
Using Ebenezer Scrooge as a lesson learned, the powerful super PACs have chosen to ally with the ghosts rather than oppose them.
Chaser haunts newsrooms possessing journalist to chase sensationalism instead of truth. Per the FCC, “We do not have any rule or licensing requirements in which a cable channel might categorize itself as news vs. entertainment.”
Ambusher possesses to spread wanton violence.
Fickle takes hold in the hearts of those willing to fight, fomenting doubt and second-guessing action.
Feigned Ignorance. The most useful ghost of all. It’s not a lie unless you get caught. Even then, Chaser can provide some distraction.
To quote Shakespeare’s Henry V, “so many horrid ghosts.”
But despair is not the answer. In the 1940s, the Superman radio show was -in part- responsible for the deterioration of the cosplay ghosts we call the KKK by revealing Klan secrets during the episodes. Today, we have new ghost exorcists such as, Daryl Davis, a black man armed with patience, who has convinced over 200 members to leave the KKK organization.
Do we live fallow lives as ghosts in machines or give flesh and blood another chance? If you choose ghost, does that not put you under the possession of the PACs? A haunting regret. Go outside, get some sun. Without posting the experience on the web.
